Saturday the weather was beautiful and Maddie was itching to get outside. So, we went to Seward Park (aka The Cedar River Trail which is not at all related to Seward Park) and went to go watch fish lay eggs and die.
Rudder ate two gentle leaders and every single leash we own(ed) except a leash we "borrowed" from my dad that is made out of bungee cords. I hate it. The idea is great, dog pulls, your arm doesn't get ripped off. BUT...You also have no control of the dog. You can't give 'em a good old fashioned yank on the leash. So, we took about three pictures on our journey. River + two little girls getting too close to the edge + Rudder= Snap a couple of pictures and put the camera away before you become the evening news.
After salmon watching got boring, and Rudder was tucked safely away (safe from me) in the back of my car, we went to the park to work on our core.
Allie was convinced she could swing across these after watching an older girl do so.
And then to continue my mom of the year status (really, I was just making up for being really earlier in the day) we came home and pulled out the cookbook so Maddie could help make dinner. She begged to use the scissors and promised that she would not cut her hair. You've never seen anyone so focused, or excited, to cut chives.

What a fab day. Get Rudder a choke collar. I bet $20 he can't chew that.
what meg said - with matching leash
+ make sure it has the spikes on the inside (or IS that the choke collar?)
That is some INTENSE focus on the chives. And the bangs look intact so yay! Love Allie's newfound bravery on the playground.
Maddie sure loves to help especially in the kitchen. Let's just hope that continues well into her teen years. I love to read about Lis's escapades. It always makes me laugh out loud. Your descriptions are so great I can actually visualize the scene.
