Nisqually Wildlife Refuge

At just over four miles we had some tired feet by the "end" (gasp...it was technically only halfway) of our walk. Thank god for Roman who used the opportunity to charge for piggy back rides.  Thank god for Peter's spare change laying around the house so the kids didn't actually pay... Thank god for the blog so now he knows he got jacked.

Elma

Today the girls and I ventured out to Brady, WA (no zip code so the closest town is Elma) to visit a friend's ranch. We opted to fly (30 min vs 1.5 hours in the car). Both girls took a turn up front and had a blast flying the plane. At the farm we petted a cow, checked out some chickens, rode a horse, swam in the river and generally went nonstop for the day. Maddie wanted to send a thank you text while we were in the air and I think it pretty much sums it up. "Thank you for showing us everything you are so nice you took time out of your day you showed us your horses, cows ,chickens.  you even let me ride the horse I had a great day! By Maddie"

This barn is 100 years old. It's beautiful.

Happy 4th of July

What a FUN 4th of July.

Peter knows how to put on a show.  A 12 billion dollar show if you must know. No one lost any limbs, sunburns were kept to a minimum (and so was sleep), we ate like kings, rode inner-tubes (with some tears and some fears being conquered), rode quads (and were young enough to believe that there was a 9:00 PM automatic cutoff switch (and if I'm honest, young enough to believe there was an automatic cutoff switch anytime someone told them so because they would have ridden in circles ALL. DAY. LONG). We celebrated Dante's 8th birthday with homemade (ok, ok, Betty Crocker) cake, we shot guns (not "real" ones), we found a snake (not cool), and we insisted on a sleepover in the tent (that literally lasted 5 minutes before a change of heart).

Simply put, it was awesome.

Peter is somewhere in that line of explosives lighting each one of them off. A wee bit scary to watch.

Dante and Elizabeth had absolutely no fear.  They loved getting tossed off.
